An Outpouring of God's Grace

Heavenly Father strengthen us as we pour out so that You can pour in and lead us as we pour forth in Your name. Amen

August 3, 2020

Good Morning Princesses!

August is here and as we approach the last few weeks of our summer session, this week and next week's GO! Report will be centered on the Holy Spirit. Also, to prep for the Week of August 17th, we will be putting together a second prayer story similar to last week! So.... please send another favorite scripture and we will showcase in our Holy Spirit prayer story later this month. Please email your scriptures by August 14th to godsopportunity.canton@gmail.com. Can't wait to see what you send in!

1. A Look at "The Acts"

Have you ever put something together? How many of you would admit that you read the directions first? How many jump right in and begin to assemble, checking the directions as you build? LOL! The second one is totally me!

2. Rooftop Action

Today, we will are not building per se, but we are going to take a deep dive into the Book of Acts whose author is Luke (a physician who also traveled with Paul and recorded Paul's last words). If you are looking for the book in the Bible, it is the fifth book of the New Testament.

Let's start first with a rooftop view on the Book of Acts also known as the "Acts of the Apostles" which links the Gospels (life, death, and resurrection of Jesus) with the Epistles (pastoral epistle or "letters" written to various individuals or churches). In addition, the book of Acts details:

  • The birth of the Christian church.

  • The spreading of the Good News.

  • The outpouring of the Holy Spirit (God's grace).

3. The Action of Power and Strength- A Closer View

For the two weeks, we will specifically focus on Acts Chapter 2, action-packed verses 1-21, and next week verses 22- 47. As you take some time to read this week Acts 2:1-21, think about the following single word and note the action words highlighted in red below:

Acts 2, verses 1-21 begins with revealing to us by sound, sight, power, and the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:2-3

(Sound - blowing violent wind)

(Sight- Tongues of fire)

Now, this next part is simply divine! Verse 4 tells us exactly what happened when what seemed as "tongues of fire" rested on the disciples:

Acts 2:4

(Filled with the Holy Spirit)

As you continue to read you will find that onlookers were "amazed and perplexed" (v.12) but then enters Peter, bold and courageous in voice to offer a bit of clarity to the crowd. He takes them back to the Old Testament Book of Joel:

Acts 2:17-18

(Outpouring of the Holy Spirit)

As we reach verse 21, Peter delivers to the crowd a single, timeless, all-powerful truth. Recite the following out loud:

In Jesus' Name, AMEN.

While our deep-dive focused on highlights of Acts 2:1-21, I encourage you to take some time this week to read or listen to the scriptures in Acts of the Apostles. Until next week Princesses!
